Cape Greco is a cape and a small peninsula located between Protaras and Ayia Napa. It covers an area of 3.85 sq. km and has been an officially protected forest park since 1993, included in the international network Natura 2000.

The History of Cape Greco

The history of Cape Greco dates back a long way. Archaeological excavations in 1992 revealed that this site was one of the oldest Neolithic settlements in Cyprus. In 2007, divers discovered an ancient shipwreck dating back to the 2nd century AD in the marine area of Cape Greco. Additionally, there is a lighthouse built by the British at the cape, the second in Cyprus after the one at Paphos Castle.

  • Lighthouse of Cape Greco: Built by the British in 1892, it was used for decades to regulate navigation and served informally as an observatory for smugglers’ activities.
  • Cyclops Cave: According to mythology, this large cave was once inhabited by a family of cyclops who were shipwrecked on the island after a sea disturbance.
  • Chapel of Ayioi Anargyroi: Built on a coastal, vertical rock in blue and white colours, it offers a unique view. After admiring it, descend the steps to the sea to see the cave below. The spot below the chapel is also ideal for diving.
  • Swimming in Blue Lagoon by Sea: Another way to see Cape Greco is by sea, by renting a boat where you will also have the opportunity to swim in the Blue Lagoon, a wonderful spot with crystal clear turquoise waters.
